Holy Cow! it's been that long?

I've been very distracted while I crochet away getting some more inventory for the craft sale coming this Saturday.
in between the frantic designing and planning and crocheting I've actually finished a couple of custom orders for etsy.

I have a new frustration. I have been working on fingerless gloves - something I've made a jillion of- and I have come across a new problem. I have been using a single crochet stitch on many of them (instead of the hdc I often use) and no matter how many chain stitches I start out with for a foundation I can't seem to make any gloves bigger than a small. "?"

something has got my crojo (crochet mojo) off.

a new pair of shoes

I really have enjoyed these terrific little booties. I have had another order for a pair. I am really proud of these. they are smaller than I usually make. I recently bought a size B and a size C hook.

I really like this pair.

so I've been thinking about doing this for a while, but I am going to make a bigger pair. first I'll start with a size that will fit a bigger kid. then I'll try a pair that will fit me. :)
I'll post pictures if they turn out for a grown foot.

side note -- I'm having a sale on selected necklaces until Sept. 1, 2011

Frisbee - the new stash buster

I have a craft sale coming up and I have a copious amount of yarn taking over my home.

during the hotter days of Summer before the humidity and the dew point caused all kinds of set backs for me, I made Frisbees. I was never really good at throwing and catching them as a kid and I think it was because I was nervous about getting smacked really hard by a disc of hard plastic.
a while back I made a large disc to be a rug out of some large twine and it never made it to the floor. the kids loved to play with it and early this summer we went outside and threw the thing around. INSPIRATION!

New stash buster.

Difficulty rating... very beginner

you will need stash yarn - two colors for two strands together...
J or K hook
Yarn needle

sc = single crochet
(*blah blah*) x* = repeat the steps in the parenthesis the number of times indicated

row 1: holding two strands together, chain 3, in the first loop sc 6 (or start with magic circle, sc 6. pull tight) continue in the round.
row 2: 2 sc in each = 12 sc
row 3: (2 sc, sc) x6 = 18 sc
row 4: (2 sc, sc next 2) x6 = 24 sc
row 5: (2 sc, sc next 3) x6 = 30 sc
row 6: (2 sc, sc next 4) x6 = 36 sc
row 7: (2 sc, sc next 5) x6 = 42 sc
row 8: (2 sc, sc next 6) x6 = 48 sc

now you get the method here... you can make your frisbee/disc as large as you like...

last 2 rows: single crochet in each stitch and end with a slip stitch.

weave in your ends and throw!

I've been working away.

I still have a lot to do before the craft sale next month. I kind of feel like I just don't have much to offer. I'm also working on some more cotton flowers that need to be dyed, I just haven't had the time... not that it takes all that much. What ever, me

so while working on the sale, I have also been working on the shop.
I have had a request for a baby cocoon. I haven't made one for over a year and I'd been nervous that it just wasn't going to work out being that I was rusty. I decided that I would make it bigger than the ones I've made in the past, that way it will be usable for a while longer than the first month or two. so I am still nervous. I really hope it wasn't a mistake to make it the size I did.

but it turned out all natural and beautiful, simple but boutique. maybe that's just me...

So last week I had mentioned the pumpkin hat I made after making the baby pumpkin hat. I finally got around to photographing it.

I really hope that someone will buy it. it's nice to be appreciated ;)

oh my, has it been so long?

well, the answer to that would be "yes".

I honestly don't know where the time has gone. I blame the weather. I know you think it's a silly little scape goat for me, but it is true! the heat can make you wither and the humidity can make you reject all contact with any and everything.
but the horrible cruelty of nature has a flip side.
when I get my happy blissful weather I snuggle in and get cracking away. this has been the case this last week.
last Tuesday I woke to such relief that can only come from 64 degrees and a dew point in the 50s

aahhhhh
truly, I was in Heaven! Autumn is my favorite time of the whole year. Autumn is just not long enough. it only last a few short weeks here :(
but having it stuck in my head... especially after revisiting the Autumn leaves hat... I made this lovely baby pumpkin hat.

and because I had to run to the store for yarn to finish off the top I had nearly an entire skein left over, so you know what that means
another hat, of course

oh, and I sold that absolutely lovely, delicate, and wonderful necklace I mentioned in my last post.
I was even more chuffed.

I'm chuffed

I had this vision of a lovely, delicate necklace. I began to crochet the flowers and hoped that it would be what I had envisioned but as I finished dying the flowers and setting them together the vision changed and I think for the better.

it ended up being a beautiful and delicate necklace and I was quite proud of it... then I put it on my daughter's slender neck and I was just stunned by how wonderful it turned out.

low humidity = happy hooker

:)

finally I feel like I can break out my hooks again and get to hooking once more.

three days ago the humidity was in the high 80s. it was so miserable, drowning would have been a happier experience.

but the wind blew and the humidity floated away and I was happy again and eager to get something made...

I go through my technique phases. I sometimes love Tunisian crochet so much and then other days I just want to get back to the basics. but I saw a ear warmer/head band the other day. it was knitted and I love it, but I am so terrible when it comes to knitting so Tunisian has been my favority favoritest. I get to fake knit and the result is not exact, and maybe not quite as springy, but it looks good and it makes me happy.

way back a couple of years ago I made a beanie that I was really happy about (still am) but nobody else felt the same about it. I had it at a couple of craft sales and I had it listed in my shop and no one wanted to give it a loving home.
at one of the craft sales there was a girl who tried it on and really loved it, but she wanted a longer hat, not a beanie.
so since nobody loved it the way that I do, I decided to introduce the beanie to some more yarn.

I turned it into a cloche. now I really really like it and have listed at crocheteveryday.
but this is probably what is going to happen... someone will buy it and I will have a moment of sadness in which I will have to make a run to Hobby Lobby and buy more yarn to make one for myself and one for each of my daughters.
